Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal outlined six broad principles for building a mutually beneficial partnership between India and the European Union at a high-level meeting with Maros Sefcovic, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security on January 18-19. The talks were aimed at setting up a new framework for an India-European Union strategic agenda in the area of trade and investment. Addressing a conference of construction equipment manufacturers, Commerce Secretary in the Government of India Shri Sunil Barthwal said the government's target of $1 trillion exports by 2030 includes $250 billion from the engineering sector, which includes automobiles, equipment etc. He added – “This is the ambition that we have taken which is based on ground reality. It is based on the fact that how the middle class is growing, the government focus on infrastructure development within the country, focus on development of ports, airports, railway modernization, broadening of roads.” He also said that the Commerce Ministry is working on addressing certain disabilities that the mobility industry is facing to help them provide a level playing field and enable them to compete with global players. The Netherlands Ministry of Defence entered into a four-year agreement with Airbus, to provide optical, radar, analytics, elevation and advanced products through the One Atlas platform. This collaboration will support intelligence operations, mission planning and decision-making processes of the ministry. One Atlas Platform will provide state-of-the-art geospatial solutions to support the ministry’s operational and strategic needs. Australia’s Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) released the ‘Container Stevedoring Monitoring Report 2023-24.’ The report presents information on the financial and operational performance of the monitored container stevedores (a term indicative of, from the first point in the ship's or ship's hold to the first point on the quay or vice versa). It also includes observations on key developments within the sector. Indian green hydrogen and ammonia producer AM Green has signed an MoU with UAE-based logistics group DP World to develop a sustainable supply chain for green fuels and chemicals. Seeking to enhance global decarbonization efforts through exports, the partners signed the MoU in December 2024. The MoU entails joint logistics and storage infrastructure development to facilitate the global export of 1 million tonnes per annum (MPTA) of green ammonia and 1 MPTA of methanol. This includes developing port infrastructure across AM Green Net-Zero Industrial Clusters to facilitate global exports; bunkering infrastructure across Dubai, India, and Southeast Asia for green ammonia and methanol supplied from AM Green plants; and, establishing strategic terminal infrastructure across the European Union, Far East, and UEA to provide the required zero carbon supply chain. ...read more |

The transmission of power across borders in projects like IMEC (India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor), can help address imbalances between electricity supply and demand from renewable sources, contributing to security of supply. However, interconnection cables are complex infrastructure, with projects taking 10-15 years to complete. This co-publication of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) focuses on a core aspect of international trade: ensuring security of supply. This role is increasingly important in the context of the transition to renewable energy, which is central to mitigating the effects of climate change. The report also discusses mechanisms to speed up interconnection projects. Actions identified include ensuring better access to sustainable trade finance and climate finance.
